Status of civic engagement in rural local government in Bangladesh for combating the COVID-19 pandemic period

Nigeria
Abstract

Globalization, deviant marriage and security challenges in Nigeria seek to unravel the connections between the multidimensional impacts of globalization on the family institution and the ripple effects they in turn have societal security. The objective of the paper also includes the suggestion of family based solutions to the security challenges in Nigeria, posed to Nigerians by Nigerians. As a socio-legal paper, issues were addressed from interdisciplinary perspectives. Such issues as the legal status of the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender, Queer, and others (LGBTQ+) in marriage, as well as the use of assisted reproduction in Nigeria. Authorities were obtained from case laws, statutes, and Islamic Law sources from the Holy Qur’an and numerous books of Hadith. The paper raised pertinent issues regarding the role of technology in the decimation of traditional roles and importance of the community in peaceful home and society, and the debilitating effects that these have on the institution of marriage as recipe for our societal ills. The paper recommended, among others, the adoption of premarital counselling, and the establishment of counselling centres for schools and communities under the control of Islamic scholars.
