The Learning Opportunities in Rehabilitation Programs and Holistic Formation of Persons Deprived of Liberty: Basis for Holistic Development Resources
This study examines the impact of rehabilitation programs on Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in Philippine prisons. Findings reveal high effectiveness across spiritual, human, intellectual and pastoral dimensions, fostering holistic development. The study employed mixed-methods research, combining surveys and statistical analysis with interviews and observations. Results show strong emphasis on spiritual growth, physical fitness, mental health support and skill development, aligning with restorative justice and reintegration principles. Rehabilitation programs demonstrated significant positive impact on PDLs’ lives, reducing recidivism potential. Challenges include limited resources, insufficient funding and lack of specialized professionals. Addressing these issues requires comprehensive approaches, increased funding and improved facilities. A proposed handicraft project aims to generate sustainable income, promote self-esteem and enhance reintegration prospects. Recommendations include establishing sustainable partnerships, enhancing programs through inter-agency collaboration and allocating sufficient resources. Expanding partnerships with religious, educational and welfare organizations can enhance development opportunities. Further research on BJMP personnel’s leadership dynamics and cultural nuances within correctional facilities is recommended.
