Abstract

An experiment was carried out to study the effects of the different synthetic hormones on mycelial colonization, days to pinhead formation, number of pinheads, days to harvesting, number of fruiting bodies, cap size, and stipe length, of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus). The study was lay-outed using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) replicated three times with 7 treatments include Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokinins and combinations of the three with standard check as control. A liter of water was supplemented with 3,000 ppm of the different hormones and sprayed to the substrates. In terms of number of successful fruiting bodies, cap size, and days to edibility, the combination of auxins + gibberellins produced the best results; however, all treatments containing growth hormones increased the number of fruiting bodies, cap size, and stipe length.
