Integrating Values to Teacher Education Institutions

This study was conducted to determine the level of importance of the Department of Education Core Values namely Maka-Diyos (Godly), Makatao (Mindful of Humanity), Makakalikasan (Respectful of Nature) and Makabansa (Patriotic) to teacher education students. It also assessed the relationship that exists between the gender, religious affiliation, family structure, parent’s educational attainment, and monthly income of the respondents and the level of importance of values. Based on the results, the researcher developed an intervention program for teacher education institutions. Descriptive research design was used to find out the relationship that can be seen between behaviors. The data reveals that teacher education students show high level of importance to the four core values while teachers also give strong emphasis to it. Significant relationship was seen between gender and the level of core values, which suggests that gender is related to the teacher education students’ level of importance of values. On the other hand, negative correlation was also found between parents’ educational background to the values of being makakalikasan (respectful of nature) and makabayan (patriotic). This means, the lower the educational attainment the more students perceived the importance of those said two core values. However, no significant relationship was found between parents’ monthly income, religion, family structure and the core values.
