Scottish Power, are seeking a Ecologist / Environmental Advisor for a long-term contract opportunity based in South Lanarkshire (Home and Office / Site based work pattern would apply).
Job Description
Support the SP Transmission Environmental Manager, Environmental Department and Engineering and Construction staff to deliver, monitor and continually improve the company’s Environmental Management Systems and practices to maintain ISO 14001 accreditation. Provide environmental specialist knowledge and expert advice and guidance on protected species conservation and habitat enhancements. The role holder will be a skilled influencer, able to integrate biodiversity improvements within engineering driven projects.
Qualifications in biodiversity or natural resource management or similar and extensive practical application in biodiversity protection/ environmental sustainability
• Demonstrated understanding of the legislative context in regard to natural resource management and biodiversity
• Strong demonstrable ecological survey, assessment and report writing experience
• Previous botany or ornithological experience would be advantageous.
• Experience of working with protected species would also be advantageous.
• Experience of Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA) would also be advantageous
• In-depth knowledge of current and developing environmental legislation
• Experience, knowledge, and good understanding of ecological and hydrological aspects on construction sites
• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management
• Strong influencing and consulting/ communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Confident speaker.
• Sound planning and analysis skills – anticipate problems and plan solutions.
• Able to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues and contractors.
